What is Easter?
Easter celebrates Jesus rising from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. It is the oldest and most important feast in the Christian calendar, the day the whole story of faith turns on.
Easter is a moveable feast. It falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the spring equinox, which places it somewhere between March 22 and April 25. That is why the date is different every year.
How to prepare for Easter
The forty days of Lent are the traditional runway to Easter, a season of prayer, fasting, and giving. Holy Week, the final week before Easter, walks through the last days of Jesus from Palm Sunday to Good Friday.
Even a few minutes of prayer each day in the weeks beforehand can make the celebration land more deeply. Many people set aside quiet time on Good Friday and Holy Saturday so that Easter morning arrives with real anticipation.
