What is Pentecost?
Pentecost falls fifty days after Easter Sunday and closes the Easter season. It recalls the day the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles, who then began to preach the good news in many languages.
The name comes from the Greek word for fiftieth. It is one of the three great feasts of the Christian year, alongside Christmas and Easter.
How to prepare for Pentecost
A traditional way to prepare is to pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit over the nine days between Ascension and Pentecost, the original novena.
Even a short daily prayer asking for wisdom, courage, and peace is a fitting way to approach the feast.
